Working As An Esthetician

A lot of people go into cosmetology to pursue a degree as an esthetician and begin practicing in that field. It’s common for people to be looking to have a career in the medical esthetician industry because they’re growing at such a high rate of demand. Others will look into esthetics work just to be placed in a spa or a salon setting and do non medical skin care, teach people how to apply cosmetics, or even specialize in a specific type of makeup. Some of them decide to open their own business and others may focus more on a massage practice or something along those lines. A lot of people really enjoy working in a spa and like have clients leave feeling peaceful and relaxed as well as having so many options of services to provide to choose from.

Others will want to specialize more and it’s not uncommon to see a licensed esthetician working in a doctors office with a background in dermatology helping people with various skin concerns. Others will go to clinics and hospitals to work with burn victims or people with facial deformities to teach them how to apply makeup to cover their scars the best. Some will work in medical spas with plastic surgeons giving more in depth or intensive skin care treatments such as chemical peels, microderm abrasions, face lifts, botox and other such procedures that are preformed under the watchful eye of a doctor.  A lot of estheticians find that specializing in a specific area allows them to be more in depth in their field and to eventually make more money as they become a known expert.

Some people that work in esthetics may want to go into developing their own skin care line of various products to use on the skin or to treat certain conditions with. People that have a background in esthetics and then couple it with some experience in dermatology can go a long way in their field not only as an expert in their area but also working for various companies to design new products, consulting patients about their skin, and some even go on to write books about various aspects of skin care.

Esthetics spend their days seeing various clients, consulting the charts of clients who have come in or are going to be coming in, and preparing rooms for clients to be seen in. They also perform various services like waxing, facials, massages, skin peels, wraps and so forth as well as often meeting and consulting with clients about their skin, recommending various products to them, and giving them ideas about how they can best take care of their skin.

If the field of esthetics is something that sounds interesting to you it’s a good idea to visit some local spas in your area and see what the working environments are like and if you would enjoy that field. Talk to some estheticians and see if they can give you ideas of where you want to go to school and where some good places to work are. Take to people that work in a few different areas of the industry to figure out what would work best for you and remember to ask lots of questions so that you can be certain before you make any big decisions or commitments. An esthetics career could be a great option for you so look into it and see what you find out.
