Working As A Nail Technician

Working as a nail technician can be a lot of fun and for people who enjoy the work it can be a very rewarding career. Some people think that all a nail technician, which also goes by a manicurist, pedicurist, or cosmetologist, does nothing but sit around all day and paint toenails but that really isn’t the case. Nail technicians can have very demanding and high-pressure jobs, especially during busy seasons when everyone is out wanting a manicure or a pedicure. A lot of nail technicians also struggle with the many hazards and dangers that are around in their industry. Sharp tools, things that haven’t been sanitized properly, harsh chemicals and dangerous, toxic, substances all pose substantial risks to the safety and wellness of not only others but the nail technician herself. Repeated exposure to these chemicals is thought to be cancer causing which is also a risk of being a nail technician. These are just a few of the small downsides to being a nail technician but fortunately there are many upsides.

Most nail techs work their own hours simply because they own their own business and operate under a business license. This allows for a lot of flexibility and down time if they want it as well as the opportunity to take on more clients during busy seasons and earn more money. Nail techs also have a very flexible job which allows them to work when and where they want without having to work around a boss’s schedule. This also allows them to take time off when they need to and all they have to do is just schedule the clients to another date.

Nail technicians enjoy a to of freedom and a lot of creativity in their job because many people don’t really know what they want until they see it. So a nail technician can be very creative and stylistic with their clients if they want to. That doesn’t mean that it isn’t a demanding and very labor intensive job. Nail technicians, regardless of whether they rent a booth or work on salary with a salon have a great deal to do every single day and with each and every client. Nail technicians are responsible for cleaning and maintaining fingernails and toenails as well as giving them a clean and pretty look, helping keep hands and feet soft, as well as polishing and designing nails. A nail technician also has to treat any conditions the hands and feet may have like cuticle problems or corns and makes sure that her clients are in the best condition when they leave.

It’s also extremely important for a nail technician, as it is with other professions in the cosmetology industry, to be certain that the materials and tools they are using are sanitized and clean. This is a very important part of the profession and requires critical care and attention on a daily basis.

If it sounds like fun to you to give manicures and pedicures to people and make their hands and feet feel great then it may be a good career for you to look into!
